Introduction
This is a guide with much explaining in triggers area using the normal AoM editor.
GROUP: This is a trigger group, it is used for sorting out triggers in the right places easily.
Trigger: The actual trigger, can be moved into groups and be renamed for your own use.
[glow=red,2,300]Effect[/glow]: What is going to happen. [glow=red,2,300]Condition[/glow]: When it is going to happen.
Making a Map using triggers:
Create a normal map (doesn't matter what size),
create an opponent team (so you can test your triggers w/ having the annoying ''Victory is yours'' title coming up - Of course, the opponent should have a unit somewhere in the map).
Requirements:
- Age of Mythology game (Updates if possible).
- Some basic knowledge in the editor.
We are now going to create a trigger which will let (for example) a Foltstag Flag bearer walk into a specific area which will spawn some units in an specific area).
First of call create a new Group under the tab ''Trigger'' then press Group editor. Press the Insert button then rename the group to unit buyer or something (it can be anything as long as you can keep track of it). After you have written the name press Enter. You have successfully created a group!
Now lets make a small area for this trigger to take place - lets flatten the ground in a corner for about 50x50 range (range in how long units can shoot, for example arrows). Make this terrain pretty with the terrain painting like city tiles as a standard terrain there, make an 2x2 area with the terrain: CityTileWaterPool under: ''Terrain'' then CityTiles. Create an Obelisk(priest) or something else that takes a small space, can be easily seen and is a building. (The building should belong to Gaia). Create a Folstag Flag bearer under; (''Objects'' -> Place objects... -> Embellishment -> Foltstag flag bearer) BELONGING TO YOU [Player 1]. Create a settlement and 1 (or) 6 villagers around it (or any unit you want to have converted when entering the area) REMEMBER: The units converted should be GAIA.
Now head to the Trigger editor (''Trigger'' -> Trigger Editor). Choose a group to put the triggers are in (default: ungrouped) change it to our new group. Press the Insert button to the left. Press the Condition circle - Now we are going to decide when the button is created - We want the Foltstag flag bearer to enter the blue water area to convert the villagers to your own villagers. So we don't want this to happen directly ''Condition: Always'' lets change this to ''Units in area'' (simply press the scroll down where it says ''Always'' and press U (a simple hot-key) till you see ''Units in area'', press that one. Now we want to have your unit to enable this trigger. First we need a center unit (where you need to go to enable the trigger), press the obelisk (or whatever you used as a small building) and press the Center unit button, to see if you have chosen the correct unit, move the camera away and press the show button (this will show the unit that you picked out) if it shows the obelisk, you made this correctly.
Player: [This should be filled out by the player that will enable this trigger] Lets leave it as player 1.
Unit type: [This is what should enable this] Leave it as unit, because we want our own unit to enable this.
Radius: [How far away from the obelisk/building/unit this can be enabled] lets make it fairly close, leave the radius to 8-9 (remember to have the obelisk close to the blue pattern).
Operator: [We should not go into that so much right now] Leave it as default: ==
Count: [Not sure about this but I think this is how many units there is to be used to enable this] Leave it as 1.
We should make a new condition that allows only the Foltstag flag bearer to enable this trigger so press the Insert button to the right. Now we should take the condition ''Units Owned''.
Leave the first field as Player 1 and press the folstag flag bearer then press Source units. (Use the Show process here as well to see if it works). Now we made the trigger only possible for the Flag bearer. Now we need to add effects.
Press the effects circle to the left. The effect should first be ''Convert'' -> Change the SetldteProcessing field to ''Convert'' (we want to make the villagers our own units). First change into Unit Place mode (where you place units, change to gaia, this allows us to double-click on a gaia unit to view all close/same type of unit) - > Switch back to the trigger editor into effects in ''convert'' -> double-click the villagers then press the unit button. (I strongly recommend that you do the show-feature to get rid of bugs early!).
When thats done -> we want to kill the obelisk & the foltstag flag bearer so nobody else can choose the area/choose another one. Press the insert button to the right and choose ''Kill'' in the new Setl~ field, press the obelisk then press the Unit button. (use the show feature here as well). Repeat this but now we want to kill the flag bearer as well so press the flag bearer then press unit button (use show !!!). If you succeed doing that you may try out your new trigger!
Press the ''Scenario'' tag and press Playtest Scenario, play as player 1.
Move your flag bearer to the blue water area - the obelisk gets razed down and your flag bearer dies AND if you have some new units -> You successfully made a new map using very simple triggers!
How to learn to become a better map maker: Download other maps and check the triggers out!
